I'm learning a lot in my Functional Medicine Coaching Program and my biggest take-a-way last month was to approach the world from a curious perspective.  

 

Look at the world with wonder & amazement - listen without judgment - separate problems from identity...

Spring is in the air!...

 

Ten years ago, our budget was pretty limited.  But it was Spring Break  and I had an energetic 3rd grader.  I was determined to show her a good time.   We lived so closed to CSULB so we decided to take a nice bike ride on the campus.

 

I remember riding by The #EarlBurnsMillerJapaneseGardens and she wanted to go in.  I happily agreed.

 

We came across this beautiful pond and both of us had our #Ahhhmoment...we still remember that happy day...

 

 

Happy Spring and go find your "Ahhh" moment...

#MotivationMonday...Words Matter...Be Kind To Yourself

Last month was ...well, I can't describe it.  

 

It was challenging and exhilarating all at the same time!

 

I signed up for something that was really hard for me to do.  I berated myself and that little voice in my head was constantly reminded me how flawed I was...

 

Luckily, my support system was louder than that little bitty sh*tty voice and I was able to accomplish what I set out to do...

 

The way you speak to yourself really does matter...We need to be kinder to ourselves and treat ourselves with love and encouragement.  

 

This is my #MondayMotivation for the week...

How many of you feel like you could make better use of your time?  

 

We MAKE the time for other priorities like our families, work and community.  But, why do we come last?...

 

I'm typing this as I'm throwing out the horrible fast food I succumbed to because there wasn't time to cook, along with my achy lower back because I didn't have time to do my daily yoga.

 

It's funny, I schedule everything else in my life except for ME TIME.  This week, I'm going to do it differently...

#TuesdayTip - Don't Have Time To Work Out - Break It Up in Small Doses!

2.27-TuesdayTip-Making Time for Exercise

I want to workout but I just don't have the time!

 

I've said this a couple of times...

 

But then, my lower back starts hurting and I lose that little "spark" in my step...

 

And then, I realize...I do have time...but they only come in 20 minute time blocks.  

 

So, I "fast walk" the dog first thing in the morning...great bonding time BTW...Pick up some weights & do crunches right after work and get on the mat at the end of the day....

 

Doing this consistently, five days a week, doubles the Government-recommended Guidelines.  This will increase your lifespan and help you lead a higher quality of life!

 

Look at that...I do have the time after all

#TuesdayThoughts - How To Fall In Love With Yourself

I thought I passed through my midlife crisis already... 

 

But without revealing too much information, I find myself in a tornado of major changes in my life.  And as I head into this Valentine’s Day with the potential prospect of being on my own, I’ve been able to do a lot of thinking. 

 

I’ve realized that being part of a couple has made me complacent.  The time alone has made me realize that I’ve spent most of my energy on other people and not really myself. 

 

I came across the article and heart-ily embraced it. 

 

Fall In Love With Yourself

 

Here’s what I came away with….

 

See Yourself Through The Eyes of Someone Who Loves You

 

· Really grouchy first thing in the a.m. without coffee …this is why I learned how to make coffee at a young age, Mom

 

· Over-planner and over-estimater …consequently, always prepared…although, I don’t know why someone needs to worry about Plan Z

 

· Always asking the deep questions…c’mon, Mom, we’re just watching Gilmore Girls!

 

· My best friend…although, I can’t spend more than 12 hours with you….

 

I wouldn’t change a thing…

 

 

 

 

If There’s Something You Don’t Like About Yourself, Change It

 

· Stop overanalyzing things – I can’t control it so I need to just accept it instead of finding things to “explain” it

 

· Stop planning – learn from my past, hope for my future but LIVE in the PRESENT!

 

· My coffee addiction…I think this is why I overextend myself…

 

 

 

Fall in Love With Yourself by Working on Your Self-Trust

 

· Keep my promises to myself – how many times have I put off Yoga or postponed my ME (curling up on my couch with old Hitchcock movies) Days?

 

·  I’ve done pretty great things in my life…so why am I second-guessing the last 8 years and trying to figure what I did wrong?  I fell in love…I was a person in love…it might not work out…going back, I wouldn’t make any different decisions!

 

· No matter what the outcome, I need to bet on myself.  Design a life that is fulfilled and not dependent on others.  They’re just “icing on the cake”

 

 

Ask Yourself What You Need

 

· I need to simplify – no more shoe sprees or “things” – spend my money on experiences…travel, classes, anything that revs up my passions!

 

· I need authenticity!  This crisis has brought many surprising reactions from my support group.  I’m learning the meaning of true friendship and I will value and take care of those relationships. 

 

· I need more positivity in my life.  Being with people who constantly bring up the negative aspects of life and human kind has dragged me down a bit and that’s not really me at all.  The “ME” I’m in love with is someone who wakes up excited to start a new day. 

 

 

I feel better already

 

In fact, since I’m now “dating” myself, I’m going to take myself out for a fancy coffee.  But only one shot…after all, I don’t want to ruin the date…
